Active TikTok followers

Follower-count is what a brand partner sees on your profile. Active-follower count is what the FYP ranker uses to weight your videos. The gap between them is usually where serious creators win — and where the inactive-follower padding most accounts carry costs them.

The takeaway

Active followers are accounts with confirmed TikTok activity inside a 7-day window. The ranker reads them differently from inactive followers — they contribute to the engagement-baseline calculation that gates FYP distribution.

Active vs. inactive in the ranker's read

TikTok's FYP ranker uses two follower signals: total count (visible) and active-engagement weight (invisible). The invisible signal is what actually drives distribution. The ranker calculates an engagement-baseline for your account — the expected likes, comments, completions per video — and uses that baseline to grade each new video's first-2-hour performance. Inactive followers don't contribute to the baseline; the ranker effectively ignores them. A 50,000-follower account with 5,000 active followers gets graded against the 5,000 baseline, not the 50,000 one.

Follower-count is what a brand partner sees. Active-follower count is what the algorithm uses.

What 'active in 7 days' means in our delivery

Premium-tier follower accounts have all of:

  • Opened the TikTok app within the last 7 days (verified at delivery time)
  • Posted at least one video in the last 30 days OR engaged (liked, commented, shared) with at least 10 videos in the last 7 days
  • Profile-complete (avatar, bio, non-default username) — the same baseline the Real tier uses

How active followers move your video performance

Two mechanisms. First, the engagement-rate lift: a fraction of your active followers will see and engage with your next video through the Following feed and the Friends tab, which contributes to the first-15-minute velocity the ranker reads. Second, the baseline rebuild: 30 days of consistent active-follower engagement raises the engagement-baseline the ranker uses, which means subsequent videos get graded against a higher bar but also get distributed wider when they clear it.

When Premium is the right tier

Right fit:

  • Established creators with a known engagement-rate dip (typical after follower-spike orders or platform changes)
  • Brand partners or agencies whose KPIs include engagement-rate metrics that brand partners audit
  • Accounts approaching Creator Fund qualification where the threshold reads active engagement, not just follower count
