Active TikTok likes

The FYP ranker doesn't grade every like the same. Likes from accounts that are actively scrolling the FYP carry more weight than likes from dormant accounts that opened the app to issue the like. The Active tier sources only the former.

The takeaway

Active-tier likes come from accounts that opened TikTok today and scrolled at least 10 FYP videos. The ranker reads these as engaged-user likes and weights them ~3× the source-quality grade of Standard-tier likes.

How the ranker grades like sources

Each like the ranker reads carries a source-quality grade based on the liking account's recent activity. The grade has three inputs:

  • Recent app-open recency — when did the account last open TikTok. Same-session likes are weighted highest; same-day likes are weighted moderately; >7-day likes are weighted near zero
  • Scroll-context — was the like issued while the user was scrolling the FYP, or as a direct-link visit. FYP-scroll likes are weighted higher because they represent the user choosing to like inside the recommendation flow
  • Account-health — was the liking account's own content recently distributed and engaged with. Accounts the ranker treats as quality-creators give higher-grade likes to others

Where Active tier sources from

Active-tier accounts are pulled from the subset of our vetted pool with confirmed 24-hour app-open activity AND ≥10 FYP-scroll events in the same window. The dispatch is timed so the like is issued while the source account's session is open — not as a deferred batch job. From the ranker's read, the source signature is indistinguishable from a real engaged-user like (because that's effectively what it is — a vetted real account, mid-FYP-session, issuing a like).

The engagement-baseline lift

TikTok's ranker maintains an account-level engagement-baseline — the expected like-rate, comment-rate, completion-rate per video for your specific account, calculated from recent video performance. The baseline is what each new video gets graded against. Active-tier likes contribute to the baseline at the higher source-quality grade, which raises the expected per-video performance the ranker uses as your account's signature. After 3-4 weeks of consistent Active-tier engagement on uploads, the baseline rebuilds at a higher level — which gates distribution wider for subsequent organic videos.

When Active is the right tier

Right fit:

  • Account-level rebuilds — creators recovering from a velocity-spike order or platform-level engagement-baseline drop
  • Pre-monetization windows — accounts approaching brand-deal pitches or Creator Fund eligibility where engagement-rate metrics get audited
  • Long-cycle campaigns — 30-90 day arcs where the goal is account-level signal lift, not single-video velocity
